Lauching Workshop Enhancing Integrity Implementation Initiative in Business – Project 12
Dr. Vu Tien Loc – Chairman and President of VCCI
On April 17, 2015 in Ha Noi, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Global Compact Network Viet Nam together conducted Lauching Workshop Enhancing Integrity Implementation Initiative in Business – Project 12.
60 participants from Ministries, business community, business associations, national and international organizations and media agencies in Ha Noi attended the Event.

Dr. Vu Tien Loc – Chairman and President of VCCC said: Enterprises should set up a transparent governance system which plays monitoring role also. Such system could boost clearer, more transparent and effective operation of businesses. Furthermore, cooperation among enterprises should be considered, such as signing an Integrity Initiative or Integrity Community. It will act as an Action Plan integrity promotion in enterprises.

Nguyen Quang Vinh General Director, Office for Business Sustainable Development, VCCI Secretary General, Viet Nam Business Council for Sustainable Development and Representative of Global Compact Network in Viet Nam added more information: Project 12 is jointly designed by VCCI and relevant agencies to strengthen business community’s roles in realization of Vietnam Government’s strategies and policies on preventing and combating corruption in business following up Dialogue 12 on anti-corruption. Project 12’s mission is to enable companies, both domestic and foreign, operating in Vietnam to work as partners to promote integrity in business through collective action as well as to make proposal to the Government on defining policies and legal frameworks towards a sound business environment.

According to Mr. Florian Beranek - UNIDO Lead Expert Social Responsibility, apart from efforts of Government and its agencies, business community should be active in anti-corruption and integrity promotion. For enterprises, corruption is not only known as bribery taking or giving but also includes lack of transparency in recruitment, no information provided to employees and others. Do not think anti-corruption is rocket science and impossible to do in current context, any enterprises could take action tomorrow by a simple way: being honest and transparent in operations. This is 1 of 4 subjects of UN Global Compact which encourages businesses to follow to be sustainable./.
