UNESCO Bangkok Call for the Sponsor for Social Campaign on ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Education for Out-of-School Children and Youth

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are pleased to announce that a social campaign on ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Education for Out-of-School Children and Youth will be hosted by UNESCO Bangkok.  UNESCO Bangkok is currently looking for private sector representatives who are interested in sponsoring our campaign.

More than 3.2 million children in ASEAN are out-of-school due to poverty, disability, regional disparity, ethnic discrimination, and many other factors.  Since last year, UNESCO Bangkok has worked together with the Thai government and the ASEAN Secretariat to prepare a draft ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Education for Out-of-School Children and Youth in order to support ASEAN countries in creating momentum in providing an inclusive and equitable quality education for out-of-school children.

The ASEAN Declaration aims to provide equal access to quality education for all children irrespective of their age, economic position, gender, nationality, ethnicity, disability, or geographic location.  To achieve this goal of achieving inclusive and equitable quality education for all, the ASEAN Declaration recognize the importance of collaboration with the private sectors among other partners and encourages diverse strategies to work with private sector representatives.

The ASEAN Declaration will be signed by the president and the prime minister of each country at the 28th ASEAN Summit, which will be organized in September in Lao PDR.  After the ASEAN Summit, a kick off meeting for the social campaign will begin from Thailand, to share and communicate the approved vision for out-of-school children and empower the community to make that vision reality.  The kickoff meeting will focus on 1) raising public awareness of the current issues of out-of-school children; 2) publicizing the ASEAN Declaration; and 3) enhancing the solidarity of ASEAN countries for regional sustainable prosperity and peace.

We would like to call for a support from selected companies to expand our social campaign and support children from marginalized and disadvantaged communities across ASEAN.
